BGE will, in certain cases, stop the electricity flowing through the power lines near the tree(s) in question, allowing a private contractor to work around de-energized lines. Please contact BGE at and request a planned outage to see if this is an option for you.

There is no charge for this inquiry or for de-energizing the lines if agreed upon by BGE. BGE's commitment to electricity reliability goes beyond maintaining the poles and lines themselves- it extends to the trees surrounding overhead power lines.

Overhead Line Clearance.

Maintenance Routine maintenance around power lines is vital to providing reliable service. Call BGE at to report fallen electrical lines. Stay at least 10ft away from overhead wires during cleanup and other activities. Survey the area before starting work for the presence of overhead wires and avoid touching anything that may be in contact with a wire, like tree limbs or other debris.

Charitable Contributions.

Dec 24, In compliance with existing Maryland Regulations, it is the property owner's responsibility to remove fallen trees and debris from private property. Under Maryland Law, for fallen trees or similar accidents that may be qualified as an"act fall tree red orange God," the bge fallen tree owners are responsible for damages to their property, including cleanup, removal and related expenses.
